Manhattan/Brooklyn AC&C, NYC How it works: A new "To Be Destroyed" list comes out every night between 5:00-6:00 pm. If there is a dog you can adopt..call the ACC number if it is BEFORE 8pm. You will HAVE to pick up that dog that day. They will not hold th...e dog they will kill it. The only way they will hold it for 24 hours is if an approved rescue calls the hold in. Go to the the shelter in which the dog is located. If you cannot make it to the city..you again can get an approved rescuer to pull and there is a possibility of transport. If you have any questions please ask on the page. We have many "seasoned" helpers who can direct you on the page. *Please check the INFO TAB if you are new. *Post under the ALBUM and PIC if you are interested in a dog. Big Momma is a very young dog. You have to get to know her says the owner... Indeed. In her cage, she barks when you come too close but just talk to her, softly and her attitude changes. It did not take much to show her very sweet side... I opened the cage door and off we went, no fuss. Big Momma is big but that is the breed... She is great on the leash and housetrained. She does not seem to mind other dogs. She likes food but does not snatch it from my hand like an animal.... She can pose for the photos like a good and well behaved girl. She sits and stays on command and even lays down. Big Momma had babies before. They must have been real cute. She loves to be petted and talked too. Slob welcome..... Really a nice dog who did not like to be squeezed. She also showed guarding with her bowl of food but not for the other stuff. I really liked her.
Big Momma is a 3 yo intact female Mastiff mix relinquished to the shelter as her owner does not have time for a pet anymore. Big Momma is an 85lbs masterpiece! Her owner warned us:" Big Momma is weary of strangers (and I presume strange environments...)As she warms up, she transforms into a friendly girl...." No wonder that Big Momma behaves in her cage like a bull in an arena . She barks and fusses. She is quite intimidating. But somehow, I saw the distress beyond the fear and the anger at being locked up . I started to talk to Big Momma and she calmed down, truly. I opened her den's door, attached her to the wall while I cleaned her cage and then, off we went for a walk. Big Momma was not fussing anymore.Big Momma is big and imposing. She is right down gorgeous! Big Momma was great on the leash and eliminated in the backyard. She did not seem to mind two other dogs present in the yard, one pup Pit and one Poodle. She liked roastbeef but did not snatch it from my hand like there was no tomorrow..... She posed for the photos like a good and well behaved girl. I let her loose in the yard and she seemed to enjoy being free.She sat and stayed on command and even laid down. Big Momma had babies before. They must have been real cute. Big Momma loved to be petted and talked too. She remained quietly my my side until I decided to put an end to our session and bring her back to her cage. Big momma did not mind. She entered her safe place like a flower... No barking involved. We were friends. Big Momma is stressed. She needs an owner who understands the breed and will assert a probably poorly socialized dog. Big Momma needs some work. She is so worth it! Big Momma is at the Manhattan shelter.

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you are going to go down there and get the dog. It is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone, for someone to purposely not show up? They need every free second of their time to process Lost and Found checks and care for the animals. Not to mention people will think the dogs is safe and then they die. STOP IT OR I WILL TAKE DOWN THIS PAGE!!!!
